Business Incubator: Starting and running a Beauty industry business

 Join our slow-paced business incubator, across 9 weeks between March and May 2024, on Monday evenings and Tuesday middays, to strengthen your competitive edge on the Danish Beauty market. 


 Language: English (with slides in Ukrainian + partial translation into Ukrainian language


 Speakers: 


Eva Renata Balasz - Expert within starting and running a business within the beauty industry; 7 years of experience as beauty salon owner in Aalborg, Denmark; Trained as a hairdresser, with follow up education in nail and eyelash extension techniques; Aware of the struggles an international faces in establishing a business within the Danish beauty industry. 


Sissi Bak - Business Development and Marketing expert with over 10 years of experience in supporting SMEs grow their business in the Scandinavian Market. Sissi has also a strong background in capacity building and training, conducting sessions tailored for the Nordic market. She has developed and facilitated over 200 workshops and training tailored to entrepreneurs and SMEs in Scandinavia. 


Narcis George Matache - Course developer and facilitator with over 300 workshops created and implemented in the past five years; Expertise in designing business courses aimed at international entrepreneurs in Denmark.

Module A: The beauty landscape in Denmark


Workshop 1: Understand the beauty industry in Denmark

5th March 12:00 - 14:00 (online) 

  • Types of businesses within the beauty industry
  • Key players and major trends
  • Market size and growth opportunities
  • Gaps and opportunities in the market
  • Case studies of successful beauty entrepreneurs in Denmark
  • Associations for self-employed beauty entrepreneurs

 

Workshop 2: Understand the typical Danish customer

12th March 12:00 - 14:00 (online)

  • The Danish consumer mindset
  • Cultural influences on beauty preferences
  • Demographics and consumer behavior
  • Analysis of popular beauty products and categories among Danish consumers
  • How to make a Customer Experience Enhancement Plan and Target Persona Profile


At the end of module A, the participants will receive a homework assignment to identify one aspect of their beauty business that could be enhanced to better align with the Danish consumer mindset (e.g., service, product offerings, or customer interactions). They will need to develop a plan outlining the proposed changes and how they anticipate these changes will positively impact the customer experience.

 

 

Module B: Your first business location 


Workshop 3: Location

  • Key factors to consider when selecting a location
  • Exploring different types of locations for beauty salons
  • Estimating costs associated with different location options
  • Obtaining necessary permits and license
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Decoration of the location 

 

Workshop 4: Visit to a beauty salon 

(to be determined together with the incubator participants) (physical event) 

 

We will visit together a beauty salon to get a deep-dive into the behind-the-scenes of running a business within the beauty industry

At the end of workshop 3, the participants will receive homework to create a plan for finding and preparing a location for a beauty salon or another beauty business. 

 

 

Module C: Open for business


Workshop 5: Procurement and suppliers 

25th March 17:00 - 19:00 (online)

  • Procurement policy and criteria for selecting suppliers
  • Potential suppliers on the Danish market
  • How to negotiate and conclude agreement with suppliers
  • Overview of common terms and clauses in supplier contracts
  • Payment terms: advance payment vs. deferred payment
  • Inventory management and tracking
  • Time booking platforms
  • Policies and procedures for booking appointments, including cancellation policies

 

Workshop 6: Service delivery and communication with the client 

2nd April 17:00 - 19:00 (online) 

  • Techniques for understanding and managing client expectations
  • Identifying different communication styles and adapting approach accordingly
  • Best practices for communicating with clients during service provision
  • Strategies for handling client dissatisfaction and resolving conflicts
  • Building rapport and fostering long-term relationships with clients
  • Importance of non-verbal communication cues in client interactions

 

At the end of Module C, the participants will receive homework to self-reflect on their service delivery and communication with clients and prepare a step-by-step plan on how to improve it, if deemed necessary.

  • Strategies for effectively upselling and cross-selling to maximize sales opportunities
  • Effective closing techniques to seal the deal and secure the sale
  • Strategies for fostering client loyalty and encouraging repeat business
  • Q&A and Action Plan Development

 

At the end of Module D, the participants will receive homework to prepare a social media strategy and marketing action plan.

Workshop 9: Hiring your first employees; Scaling your business; Diversify your income

  • Understanding legal requirements and regulations for hiring in Denmark
  • Recruitment and selection process
  • Onboarding and training
  • Strategies for scaling a beauty salon business

Workshop 10: Funding/Networking and Graduation event 

(To be determined with the incubator participants) (physical event) 

  • Overview of different funding sources available to beauty entrepreneurs in Denmark
  • Strategies for effective networking, including online and offline approaches
  • Overview of key professional communities, associations, and industry organizations in the beauty sector
  • Major conferences, trade shows, and events related to the beauty industry in Denmark
  • We will invite all the participants for a graduation event in Copenhagen, for a networking event with other international entrepreneurs.
